UK Home Built Boat Regatta - 16/17 September 2006.

Many of us are talking about our boats through various internet groups. Another group member and I talking on the phone thought it might be a good idea to have a very informal Home Built boat "meet" so that we can see the results of our labours.

The Regatta will be held at Cotswold Country Park just north of Swindon who have a 44 acre lake where they can accommodate us on the weekend of 16/17 September. They charge £15 per day ticket per craft, and £5 per person per night camping.

Please note that there will be minimal organisation at this event.  There are toilets and washing facilities at the campsite, but we are not laying on any food or drink - you will need to bring your own.  This has been planned at short notice, and is a long way away from our base in Fife.

As the event is now confirmed as happening, we will be setting up a separate website very shortly which will give more information.

Robbins Timber have agreed to sponsor the event if there is enough support, and Watercraft Magazine will offer a free 3 month subscription for people who bring a boat (the numbers of subs available may be limited if there is a big response) .

All types of craft are welcome, but fixed keel boats will have problems launching. Skippers of boats with engines over 5HP will be required to show an RYA level 2 certificate.

If the interest is there for the sailors, we could get a course laid and have a race each day.

Let us know if you are interested in this event by emailing me at hbbrATjordanboats.co.uk.

Please note that I will be there to have a good time, and not to try selling boat kits (though you are welcome to ask about them). The general idea is not to have a boat show with trade stands, though as Robbins are sponsoring, they will have a presence there.

Notification about this event is posted on the Selway Fisher and Oughtred Groups  - please cross post to any other group which supports home boat building.
